Baking paper, it’s all the same isn’t it?
Well, you may not be aware, but there are more options than you may realise when it comes to baking paper.
Many of us are so busy and may think we already have the right one, but there are some important things to consider when you source baking paper for your baking business, food manufacturing or for a particular application/purpose.
So, here are a few things you may want to ask your supplier when sourcing a baking paper to ensure you get the right baking paper for you.
Which type of coating is best when using baking paper?
The types of paper used in baking have evolved over time and have also been created with a variety of coatings. Often these papers were created for use in certain scenarios
From greaseproof to wax, silicone and more, there are varied options to choose from with specific properties designed for certain uses.
Make sure that you tell your supplier exactly what you intend to use the paper for, and then ask what might suit that application the most.
Some baking papers such as a silicone coated baking paper are excellent multitaskers, can often be used repeatedly, and can be used in a broad variety of hot and cold scenarios.
Others such as wax are more suited to cold work. It makes sense to ask and look for a paper which can be used flexibly.
What to avoid when sourcing baking paper?
Some types of coatings or baking papers are less environmentally friendly than others, so ask your supplier if they are natural or not. There are environmentally friendly coating options out there.
How is baking paper sourced?
You may want to ask how the baking paper you’re buying is sourced; an expert supplier will always be happy to explain where their paper comes from. They will also confirm if it comes from a sustainable source and is manufactured responsibly. Ask which certifications and accreditations it has.
Can baking paper be recycled?
Although there are some baking papers that are made up with recycled paper, surprisingly, they may not necessarily be suited to recycling after use (which may result in them going to landfill, resulting in increased disposal charges).
The good news is that yes, there are sustainably sourced and recyclable silicone baking paper options out there, which available here in the UK, and have been certified for recycling.
Just ask about Food Paper available from Linwood Raker, which is a fully recyclable option for your professional baking and food manufacturers.
Are you using the right grade of baking paper?
Baking papers come in different grades and weight too, this may make a difference to your baking, so tell your supplier about the process you use it for or how it is used with machinery.
